Cannabidiol or CBD is a compound found in cannabis plants, which has non-psychoactive and therapeutic properties. It is the most common and well-known cannabinoid.

Cannabigerol (CBG) is the cannabinoid in which other cannabinoids are derived. As hemp plants grow, CBG is broken down by enzymes which convert CBG into other cannabinoids, like CBD-A, leaving about 1% of CBG in the plant.

Cannabinol (CBN) is a cannabinoid created from the oxidization of THC. The degradation process converts THC to CBN.

CBD-A (Cannabidiolic Acid) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw cannabis plants and is the parent molecule of CBD. CBD-A is converted to CBD through a process called decarboxylation, which occurs when cannabis is exposed to heat. Once the cannabis plant is heated, CBD-A breaks down from its acid form into CBD. The Chemical structures of CBD and CBD-A are very similar; the only difference is that CBD-A contains an extra COOH group which is removed when decarboxylation occurs. Because CBD-A is not involved with combustion or solvents, it is looked at as a more natural and immaculate material.

One way to ingest CBD is by CBD capsules. They can contain liquid or powder forms of CBD.

CBD concentrates are the materials you get when you extract CBD from hemp plants. Different extractions methods lead to different types of concentrate, e.g., CBD oil, CBD Isolate, crystals, shatter, etc.

CBD crystals are a CBD isolate where all trace amounts of other plant material have been removed leaving only CBD. After other materials have been stripped, a seed blanket is inserted into the solution and then placed in a cool, dark area. CBD crystals then begin to grow until they contain 98 – 99% isolated CBD. These crystals can be used topically or ingested.

CBD Isolate is monomolecular, which means the terpenes, cannabinoids, and other phytonutrients have been removed to make an extract containing only CBD.

Endocannabinoids are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors. They are naturally produced in humans and animals and interact with the endocannabinoid system, which regulates the body to maintain homeostasis.

Flavonoids are a specific group of phytonutrients found in most plants that are responsible for the coloring of most fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids also provide a variety of health benefits when ingested.

Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids produced in cannabis plants. They interact with our endocannabinoid system to produce a variety of therapeutic effects.

Marijuana is a strain of the Cannabis sativa L species and contains naturally high levels of THC, which gives it its psychoactive properties. Although it is often used recreationally, marijuana is also known to provide therapeutic benefits.
